The Industrial Solution for Bypass Meter Bars

In general, bypass technology applies to gas parts that allow maintenance and service of any kind without interrupting gas flow for the consumer. A.Y. McDonald takes advantage of bypass technology by offering meter bars and valves designed in such a way that there is no interruption of gas flow upon meter change-out or service.

Bypass technology has been utilized on A.Y. McDonald’s gas product line since 2006. The demand for these products has continually been growing for more than a decade. Benefits of bypass meter bars include the following:

• No loss of pilot lights
• No interruption in service or loss in flow capacity
• Meter change-outs can be performed anytime, 12 months a year
• The gas supply is always ready and regulated to the correct pressure

While there are multiple gas distribution manufacturers that produce meter bars, A.Y. McDonald is the first one to create a patented, self-contained industrial bypass meter bar, recognized as our 6480 and 6282 series. This means there is no need for additional hoses, regulators, bottles, or any special tools.

The 6480 and 6282 bypass meter bars consist of two custom made valves – the inlet and outlet. Each valve’s three oversized ports allow for a full flow in multiple directions during the bypass procedure. The valves are integral to the casting. Below are features for the 6480 and 6282 industrial bypass meter bars:

• Cast iron and brass construction
• 1 1/4” and 1 1/2” end connections (with insulated union outlet)
• 8 1/4” centerline
• 25 PSIG rated
• FNPT horizontal inlet x FNPT horizontal insulated union outlet (6480 only)
• FNPT rear center inlet x vertical insulated union outlet (6282 only)
• For class 425-1000+ meters
• Maximum flow in bypass mode
• Coatings available: black, painted, ArmorGalv, or ArmorGalv and painted
• NOTE: These bars are intended for use with natural, manufactured, and LP gas only
